In the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles selected South Florida safety Nate Allen. The 6’1, 210 lb. rookie was off to a solid start in his NFL career registering 48 tackles, two QB sacks, one forced fumble, and three INTs in his rookie campaign.
In the eyes of most Eagles fans, Allen was beginning (word loosely used) to fill the void left by Brian “Weapon X” Dawkins after he joined the Denver Broncos following the 2009 season.
In fact he was off to such a good start that he became the only Eagle to record three INTs and two QB sacks in his rookie season. However Allen’s rookie campaign was derailed by a neck sprain he endured on Nov. 17, 2010 versus the Indianapolis Colts.
Allen’s first update was provided back on June 9, by Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jonathan Tomari. The Eagles safety explained to Tomari that he underwent successful surgery on Dec. 21, 2010 to repair his ruptured right patella tendon, and that he was around 80 percent recovered from said injury.
Just two weeks later, and an additional 14 sessions of rehab, it appears as though Allen is on the fast track to recovery. Allen told Asbury Park Press Annabelle Tometich that he is now around 85 percent recovered. A healthy return of Nate Allen for the start of the 2011 season is imperative to the Philadelphia Eagles plans in 2011 and beyond. If he can he has the potential to be a leader on the Eagles defense at a very early age.
It’s looking good as far as having Allen back and ready for the start of the 2011 season, his continued dedication to rehab is crucial to his recovery but it seems like he has a good grip on that.
Stay tuned my fellow Eagles fans, with more owner meetings scheduled for next week the anticipation level is quickly rising that both sides will reach an agreement in the coming weeks!
