DeSean Jackson's NFL Draft Preview
The junior from Cal is headed toward the NFL Draft. DeSean Jackson is predicted to be picked in the 1st Round. DeSean Jackson is one of the top receivers in the draft. He showed his speed off during the NFL Combine. The junior from California is one of a handful of wideouts that displays quickness and speed to burn corners. He is probably the fastest receiver in the class. Unfortunately, with his speed comes a lack in size. This combines to make him an interesting reciever.
Strengths: Jackson is a player who can threaten to score on every touch. He is an excellent punt returner. He reminds scouts of Ted Ginn Jr. with his speed and punt returning abilities. ESPN reports he was first at the NFL Combine in the 40 (4.35) and 20-yard split (2.53). He can be a game changer and defenses have to keep track of him. His burst of speed can leave defenders eating his dust.
Weaknesses: DeSean Jackson is small for a wide receiver. Cat Crave reports that he was measured at the combine to be 5'9", 169 lbs. He could be shutdown by physical corners. He may not be able to win balls over the middle and may struggle with the big hits.
Where he could fall: Jackson could land anywhere in the first round. His most likely landing spot is with the Buffalo Bills at the 12th spot. The Bills need another threat next to Lee Evans and Jackson could provide it. Another team that could gram him is Chicago at the 14th spot in the hope of replacing free agent Bernard Berrian. Philadelphia needs a threat for McNabb who is getting old and needs weapons. Another likely spot is Tennessee. Vince Young can throw the deep ball and Jackson can catch it they would make a good combo. After that other teams looking for a receiver are Dallas and San Francisco at the 28th and 29th spot, respectively.
